I have been writing about advancing in your career for some time now. And the reason I have given it so much importance is two-fold. One because of the still high unemployment in the country and second folks who have jobs must work harder and smarter to keep not only their jobs but advance their career as well.

Advance Your Career

Advance Your Career

The happiest workers are those who understand their work and know how best to perform their tasks.

They ought to know, at one end, what their senior managers want and, at the other end, what the clients want.

We are all humans and we all have hidden qualities we must bring out to live a happy and prosperous life.

We all have the below three distinguishing qualities in ourselves.

We ought to follow them in our daily lives, may it be at the place of work or at home or some place else.

  1. Honesty is the best policy

When we were young, our mothers always told us “Honesty is the best policy.” That also means always be truthful to yourself and others. If you are honest with yourself, you are bound to be honest with others. That’s human nature. If you think the project deadline is too aggressive and you won’t be able to meet it, let your supervisors know the first chance you get.

  2. Always be willing to help your juniors

Be abreast of your surroundings professionally. Sometimes, your juniors are more informed than you. But at times where you can use your experience and know-how, be willing to help them.

If you have an introvert personality and you just sit in your cubicle minding your own business, that may be fine with you. But folks who are responsible for letting employees advance in their career, you ought to come out of your cubicle once in a while, mingle with others.

That’s one way to know someone in your group needs help. If you know the solution to their problem, don’t be shy, be proactive and extend your helping hand, so to speak.

  3. Always let the big bosses know of your progress

Whatever progress you make in your project, let your boss(es) know where you stand concerning your project. Bring everything about the project in the open. Be willing to discuss it with your colleagues and your seniors.

Many folks keep working on a project without letting their manager know about the status of their work. If you’re progressing quite nicely in your project, let the manager know.

If you get stuck in a problem and can’t produce a solution on your own, let the manager know so you can be provided with help and the project can move on. That way you should be able to finish the project on time and within budget.

In a Nutshell
As long as you are honest at work, be willing to help others – your juniors and your seniors – I think you would be in a far better position to advance in your career and be able to keep your job for the long run.

Either you follow the three tips above or get your boobs out at work to get ahead. The article is written by a female so don’t blame me for that. Man! The men are always at a loss or maybe not. You can always use your intelligence.

Both genders or maybe a third one as well can always use their intelligence, smartness, good convincing reasons and best communications to get ahead at work. Use your hard skills – I don’t mean that – as well as soft skills to get ahead at work.
