Ah, the question of all questions – to splurge or skimp? It’s easy to want to splurge on luxury items like a new car, camera, or electronic device.

However, there are a few (not so fun?) household items that should get some lovin’ before you drop the big bucks on other personal items.

Life is expensive, but these core items, which are essential to your health and well-being, should be made top priority in your home. You’ll thank us later.

  1. Mattress

Yep, a mattress. There are a significant amount of health risks associated with not changing your mattress every seven to ten years? And sleep is so important to one’s overall health, you can’t snooze on this one. A bad mattress can significantly affect your posture, cause back pain, and really mess with your sleep. Mattresses are pricey, but they’re also a long-term investment that is vital to your sleep health and overall well-being.

  2. Couch

Sure, it’s easy to buy a used cheap couch off of Craigslist, but how long does it actually last? Not to mention, the number of dust mites and dirt particles that are living deep within. Yikes. Couches aren’t an item that get replaced often, so go ahead and and invest in a couch you’ll love and want want for a few years. You’ll feel a lot more cozy and clean!

  3. Vacuum Cleaner

Have you ever had a vacuum cleaner that didn’t pick up a speck even after vacuuming the same spot for about 30 minutes? Yep, the definition of annoying. Vacuums are essential to a clean home. You won’t regret splurging on the Dyson or Shark. It will save you time, energy, and money (after buying cheap vacuum after cheap vacuum) in the long run.

  4. Sheets

Still using your sheets from college? Besides the fact that sheets should be washed every one to two weeks, having at least one nice set of sheets without the wear and tear is something that should 100% be splurged on for cleanliness and comfort! With a new mattress and pair of luxury sheets, your sleep life will be transformed. Say hello to happier days.

  5. Bath Towels

You guessed it, same as the sheets! Your guests shouldn’t have to use the towels you used when you were in college. Gross. It’s important to invest in a nice matching set of towels for your guests AND yourself. They don’t have to be made out of the nicest Turkish cotton material, but your skin will thank you for giving it the love it deserves . Many home stores offer great deals on towels too. Talk about a win-win.

Budgeting can be stressful, especially when trying to decide which items to splurge and skimp on. We get it, life is hard. But, you can’t go wrong with investing in these five items for your home. Smart home investments are key to buying the expensive personal items you want in the future.
