A very interesting article to say the least. Many folks have gone through some things in life while they were younger or in their first job, full- or part-time, that are remembered for a long time to come. 8 Things I Learned From Delivering Pizza in High School is such an interesting article written by Jason Arango in Daily Lists dot com.
- Getting customers their pizza as quickly as possible is rarely a priority
That is true. There are professions that you can do a better job with greater efficiency if you do one task at a time. Unfortunately, in pizza delivery and other such jobs you just cannot do that. - Some people are incapable of being embarrassed
In different circumstances where the nature of your job might be quite different, some folks just don’t get embarrassed. You have probably come across some colleagues and managers that get credit for a project even though they would not have had anything to do with it. Sad to say but that is increasingly getting more common now. - Stoners are usually more generous people than the wealthy
At work, some folks working with you seem to live in the 60s and 70s. However, they are the most gracious, helpful and respectful colleagues that I would ever get to meet. - People who are hungry can be real assholes
I know these people would probably call themselves extroverts. That’s fine as long as they don’t step on my toes. Sometimes I feel like they are the hungriest of the folks who are trying to get ahead by any means. - There are two types of employees: students and lifers
Students at work are those that want to learn and let you learn as well. They are always on the way to better themselves personally and professionally as against those whose uncle is the head of the department. - After 1:00 am, trailer parks can be a terrifying place
Well! When you stay late in your office, sometimes as late as after 9:00 pm, and also over the weekend, most of the lights have been turned off and you sit in your cubicle and work under a table lamp. - Female employees in male dominated jobs are essentially deemed “default hot”
Even these days and even in daylight and even in 9 to 5 office hours, someone sometimes would complain about some kind of harassment whether sexual or otherwise. That has become, I guess, a fact of life. - Pizza is not a substitute for a babysitter
Some companies have nursery at their premises but the parent would always be visiting if not calling 10 times during the 8 hours of work.
In a Nutshell
My comments on the 8 things are dedicated to the pizza deliverers. They are to be respectfully saluted.
