How to Make Frugal Fun

It’s not true that you have to spend a lot of money to have fun. Many people find themselves racking up debt by dining out every night or spending too much money on entertainment. Going over your entertainment budget is a very slippery slope that can lead to dangerous emergency loans, such as payday loans as a way of paying for the credit card debt that you’ve racked up.

You don’t want to be at the mercy of high interest rates and shady lenders simply because you didn’t know how to have frugal fun!

Here are five ways to have a blast without breaking your budget.

  1. Play a Sport

Even if you’re not that sporty of a person, you can always throw around a Frisbee, ride a bike through town, or start jogging. Not only will you not be spending any money, but you will be getting in a good honest exercise as well. If you are more sports inclined, join a local team of any sport your interested in. It’s a great way to meet friends without spending a cent.

  2. Bake Homemade Sweets

If you have a sweet tooth those trips to the ice cream parlor or smoothie joint can really add up. Instead opt to stay home and make your own goodies. Even if you’re not one to cook, there are many easy recipes that can’t fail. Baking with friends and family is a great way to bond, and the results are delicious, infinitely cheaper, and much more rewarding.

  3. Picnic at the Park

Getting away from the bustle of daily living is a treat. What better way to spend the afternoon than enjoying a picnic at your local park? Bring a loved one along to spend some quality time with, and you’re guaranteed to have a wonderful experience. There’s nothing like some fresh air to brighten your day.

  4. Enjoy Time in Nature

If you live in a bustling city, your only taste of nature can be a few solemn trees. Get your fix of nature by going out into the wilderness. There are so many things to do in nature, and the best part is they’re all free. Go on a scenic hike, and look for unusual plants or wild animals, or travel to the nearest waterfall for a gorgeous view. If you’re not looking for a major adventure, try going to your local pond with a loaf of bread and feed the ducks.

  5. Swim at a Public Pool

Even if you don’t live by a beach, you can still find a place to cool down during a hot summer. Head to your nearest public pool to take a dip, or do some laps. Public pools usually only charge a small fee to use their amenities. If your public pool isn’t to your liking try getting in touch a hold of a friend who lives in a condo with a pool or Jacuzzi. Not only will you use a pool for free, but you can also have an excuse to bond with someone without spending any money.

You can find plenty to do on a budget with a little imagination, and the savings you’ll experience from limiting your entertainment expenses can certainly go a long way.

Thank you for offering that gentle reminder. There are definitely some days where I find myself thinking – I’ve got extra money, what can I spend it on? And, well, that doesn’t work. I especially like your suggestion about playing sports – the fun part is kicking a ball against a wall! 🙂
