Anyone who loves their jewelry will attest to spending a lot of money cleaning and returning the lost luster of their prized pieces.

It is important to maintain your jewelry and to keep it looking radiant. However, this should not be the reason to break your bank.

There are many different products that you can purchase at the local store that can save you lots of cash. Below, I will mention a few of them.

  1. Using aluminum foil

You can clean your jewelry by lining a bowl with aluminum foil, fill up the lined bowl with hot water and add in bleach free laundry detergent.

Make sure the detergent is not liquid. Put your jewelry in the solution and let it sit in for one to two minutes.

This is ideal for silver jewelry. It works to restore the luster and shine of silver through a process called ion exchange.

  2. Using Baking soda

Put half a cup of baking soda and use water to make a thick paste. Make sure the paste is thick and consistent.

Afterwards, use a cloth or sponge to rub the surfaces of your jewelry.

Since gold is a bit tougher than most, pour the baking soda directly onto the piece of jewelry to get a better shine for your gold jewelry.

Then dab your cloth or sponge in vinegar and rub. Rinse it and watch the shine return to your golden pieces.

  3. Ketchup and Toothpaste

You may find this a little bit difficult to believe, but ketchup and toothpaste can be used to clean your jewelry.

Use ketchup to gently rub the surface of gold and silver. Toothpaste can be used to make your diamonds sparkle.

  4. Using Beer

Your local light beer can be used to clean up and polish your solid gold jewelry.

Make sure you do not use any dark ale or dark stout. All you need to do is to soak your soft cloth in beer and gently rub over your piece of jewelry.
