Make Quick Money in the New Year with a Garage Sale

Having a garage sell is a tremendous way to save money simply by getting organized and liquidating unnecessary assets. It’s almost more important as an organizational method than any kind of financial boon. Almost anyone who’s found themselves looking up the prices of self storage units could benefit from a garage sale, because most people simply have too much stuff.

The price of a consumer society has been rampant hoarding and debt, which leads to depression and neurosis. Sometimes these afflictions can be soothed simply by clearing out your garage, your hallway closets, unused rooms, and attics and basements.

Here are three reasons for you to have a garage sale:

  1. Earn money back on past investments

A garage sale can bring in a lot of cash on household objects and old investments that you never expected to get money back on. Those old books, appliances, records, posters, movies, toys, clothes, gadgets, and jewelry may not mean anything to you anymore, but someone else may jump at the chance to own them.

Even appliances and devices that are relatively outdated, such as CD players, DVD players, older game consoles, and tapes, can bring in some bucks from collectors and people who just simply couldn’t afford these things until now. Earn that scratch!

  2. Clear out the clutter and get organized

Sometimes you just have to go to town on your home and clear out all the old clutter. Not only will this make your home cleaner, which will probably mean spending less money on allergy medications and eye drops, you will feel more organized. Studies have proven that people get more work done in a clean home office than a messy one. Also, now you won’t feel too embarrassed to have people over.

  3. Discover the location of important paperwork

Clearing out the clutter could also help you to locate old paperwork like tax forms and receipts that could help you with your financial filings. Or maybe you’ll happen upon old letters, works of art, or photographs from your childhood. If you haven’t rooted through your garage in a while you’re in for a lot of those “Oh my God, I haven’t seen this in forever” moments. Maybe now you can finally file your 2010 state taxes!

In a Nutshell
Garage sales have taken a hit recently from sites like Craigslist and eBay, which make it easy to sell things online. However you go about liquidating your stuff, make sure you use it as an opportunity to organize your life, your papers, tax forms and receipts, while earning some cash back on old investments.
