If you have been looking for new ways to make a little extra money, then it might be time to go through the boxes in your attic, closet, or garage.

Some of your older possessions could be worth quite a bit of money if you can find the right buyer.

Here is a quick glance at a few common items that are more valuable than most people realize.

Scrap or Crap: Common Items that are More Valuable than You Might Think

  • Comic Books Based Off Recent Movies

Over the last few years, superhero movies have made billions of dollars, and those films have reinvigorated the comic book market. Original copies of old Marvel and DC comics will always be worth quite a bit, but they are very rare. Even if you don’t have an Action Comic #1 in your attic, you should still keep an eye out for comics that feature superheroes who have recently been featured in popular movies.

  • Toys from the 70s, 80s, and 90s

Some of the old toys and board games in your closet could be worth a few hundred dollars if they are in relatively good shape. Most collectors want toys and games that have never been opened, but you could still make a little money even if your items are used. Some of the brands and toys you should look out for include Furby, Cabbage Patch kids, Super Soaker, My Little Pony, and Beanie Babies.

  • Scrap Metal

Many people are surprised to hear just how valuable scrap metal can be. When you demo a room in your home or have leftover scraps from a project, you should always try to sell the metal pieces to a scrap buyer like Metal Merchants. Some of the most valuable metals include copper, brass, steel, and aluminum. You should also contact a scrap buyer if you have an old vehicle on your property that no longer runs. “Parting out” a vehicle can be very lucrative as long as you are patient and know where to sell the parts.

  • First Edition Books

Hoarding books could pay off if you have a few first editions around your home. Older books that have been popular for at least a few decades tend to be the most valuable, but some of your newer books might be worth a good amount as well. Much like toys and comics, books are worth more when they are in excellent condition. If you have valuable books that you don’t want to sell quite yet, then you should consider keeping them in sealed cases or boxes.

Before selling any potentially valuable collectibles, you must always speak with an experienced appraiser. Without one of those specialists, it will be nearly impossible to determine what your heirlooms and collector’s items are actually worth.
