The diamond color scheme is interesting because the less the color, the more valuable the stone is.

All the letters in between have different colors that they stand for as you will see in the color chart below.

How To Select A Diamond Color Grade

If you prefer a colorless diamond, you should select a stone that is in the D-F range with a fluorescence rating of faint or none.

The near-colorless diamonds that range between G and J have excellent value as their color is hardly detectable with the naked eye. If you want a stone in this range, the expert you work with would be able to ensure the color is not visible with the naked eye.

Be careful to ensure you get the right diamond you ordered because the near-colorless diamonds can appear whiter when set in a white gold metal. Yellow gold settings complement diamonds of lower color ratings.

The diamond fluorescence enhances the visual appeal of the stone with a lower color rating in the range J-M. The fluorescence helps to eliminate the faint yellow in the stone that results in a colorless appearance.

Do not fall for the lie that colorless diamonds exude brilliance. A well-cut diamond will emit fire and beauty even if the traces of faint yellow can be seen, although the presence of color lowers the stone’s value.
